M&R Financial was founded by Matthew Young and Richard Liess.  Matt and Rich know a thing or two about numbers, finance and developing solid long-term relationships. They are a dynamic pair of Midwest nice, guys next door that base their business model around doing the right thing.

Matthew G. Young, AIF®

Matthew Young is co-founder and President of M&R Financial. Matthew has more than 25 years of professional investing experience that includes defined contribution plans, profit sharing plans, defined benefit plans and personal wealth management. He has worked with companies from 20 to 3,500 employees, from blue collar to Medical Professionals and nearly every other profession.

Matthew began his investment advising career in 1996 with William Larmer and Associates and then moved to Blue Chip Advisors in 2002 to focus on company retirement plans and voluntary benefits for small to mid-sized companies, and personal retirement planning and asset protection for individual clients.

Matthew graduated from the University of Kansas, School of Business in 1994 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration/Finance. Matthew has his Series 6, 63, 65, and 7 licenses through his broker/dealer Sigma Financial and is an Investment Advisor Representative through Sigma Planning Corporation, SPC.  300 Parkland Plaza, Ann Arbor, MI 48103.

Matthew is a founding board member of the Will Shields, Will to Succeed Foundation, charter member of the Sunset Rotary Club of Johnson County and actively works to improve his community by volunteering and donating to many causes.  When not working or volunteering, Matthew enjoys traveling, domestically as well as internationally, Fishing, and visiting Winery’s. Go Chiefs!!!!


Richard Liess, AIF®, MBA, CFP®

Richard Liess is co-founder and Vice President of M&R Financial. Richard has more than 20 years of professional financial experience that includes public accounting, business consulting, serving as a Director of Finance and Human Resources, and serving as Corporate Controller. He has extensive experience in the areas of taxation, auditing, and employee benefits and communication.

Richard began his financial advising career in 2008 with Blue Chip Advisors, LLC. Richard’s focus was employee benefits consulting, specifically retirement plans and voluntary benefits for small to mid-sized companies, and personal retirement planning and asset protection for individual clients.

Richard graduated from the University of Kansas, School of Business in 1994 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting. He graduated from Washburn University, School of Business in 1997 with a Masters Degree in Business Administration.  Richard has his Series 6, 63, 65, and 7 licenses through his broker/dealer Sigma Financial and is an Investment Advisor Representative through Sigma Planning Corporation, SPC.  300 Parkland Plaza, Ann Arbor, MI 48103.

Richard is a charter member of the Sunset Rotary Club of Johnson County, and is an active supporter of the Susan G.  Komen Race for the Cure.
